Our competition is not other hospitals, rather it is cancer and heart disease and neurodegenerative disorders and diabetes and high cost of care. It is difficulty in accessing services. We strive to be the best so we can solve these problems.

Mass General Recognized for National Excellence in Healthcare

Since the survey began in 1990, Mass General has placed among the finest hospitals in the nation, and been recognized for excellence in specialty care.

For the first time, Massachusetts General Hospital moved into the #1 spot on the 2012-13 U.S. News & World Report “America’s Best Hospitals” list. Since the survey began in 1990, Mass. General has placed among the finest hospitals in the nation. Last year Mass General ranked second, just behind Johns Hopkins Hospital, which had topped the list for the past 21 years

“We are so proud of this national recognition, which is a tribute to the dedicated men and women who work here, said Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH president. “We are also thankful to our philanthropic donors. The honor is a reflection of the level of dedication and excellence that they have inspired, encouraged and supported. Together, we make this a remarkable place of healing, caring and hope.”

As Mass General celebrates this exciting distinction, however, the leadership remains mindful that every one of the outstanding hospitals on the Honor Roll – along with thousands of healthcare facilities, large and small, across the country – are collectively working toward the same goals: preventing disease, restoring health, preserving families and finding answers to medicine’s toughest challenges.

“Indeed, our competition is not other hospitals, rather it is cancer and heart disease and neurodegenerative disorders and diabetes,” adds Dr. Slavin. “It is the high cost of care. It is the difficulty that too many people still have in accessing needed services. We strive to be the best we can possibly be every day so we can solve these problems and help the millions of patients and families who need us.”
