Mass General Marks Bicentennial Year

On Sept. 16, Mass General celebrated its 200th anniversary with a Bicentennial Gala at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Nearly 1,000 hospital leaders, staff, supporters and community leaders joined together to mark this milestone. The gala was chaired by Cathy Minehan, chair of the MGH Board of Trustees, and fellow trustees Chad Gifford and Henri Termeer. The cocktail reception featured Webster Bull, the author of the MGH history book, “Something in the Ether,” and an exhibit focused on the new Paul S. Russell, MD, Museum of Medical History and Innovation at MGH.

 

Motorcyclists Ride Across New England for Home Base Program

More than 300 motorcyclists and other supporters participated in the Ride for Our Heroes on Sept. 24. The event raised vital support and visibility for the Home Base Program, a partnership of the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital. The ride routes began in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. Each starting point held an opening ceremony honoring local military heroes before motorcyclists and their riders set off. The final destination was Manchester, N.H.

 

Mass General Employees Give More Than $500K

Doctors, nurses and staff at Massachusetts General Hospital take pride in providing world-class, life-saving patient care. This year, more than 1,600 employees showed that pride by making a gift in support of the hospital’s mission through the My Giving Helps: MGH Fund Employee Campaign.

 

Neurology Chief Supports MGH with $1 Million Gift

Anne B. Young, MD, PhD, chief of the Neurology Service, recently committed $1 million in support of the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND). Dr. Young’s contribution, made through a planned gift of a flexible deferred charitable gift annuity (CGA), will provide key resources for the Department of Neurology and MIND to pursue groundbreaking research that will help find new treatments for neurodegenerative disease, ensure the highest quality of care and provide educational opportunities for both junior and experienced staff.

 

Storybook Ball Raises Vital Pediatric Funds

The 11th annual Storybook Ball brought donors and friends of MassGeneral Hospital for Children together as more than 475 attendees enjoyed a bat-themed evening at the Boston Park Plaza Castle on Oct.15. The evening, chaired for the second year in a row by Alli Achtmeyer and Alyson Lindsey, raised vital funds for MGHfC’s family-centered care approach. Initiatives highlighted included the Newborn Medicine Program and the Child Life Program. Physician-in-Chief Ronald E. Kleinman, MD, and Surgeon-in-Chief Joseph P. Vacanti, MD, shared insight into the mission of MGHfC, its newborn medicine efforts, and the Child Life Program, which provides support services for young patients and their families during challenging illnesses.
